ANSWER: The phrase bind the strong man (or strongman) is a reference to a passage in the book of Mark, where Jesus is responding to some Jewish scribes who were accusing Him of being possessed by Beelzebul. Their argument was that “by the prince of demons he is driving out demons” (Mark 3:22). In other words, the reason the demons listened to Jesus was that they were in league with Him and recognized Him as their commanding officer, so to speak.

Jesus refuted their blasphemous argument with plain logic: “How can Satan cast out Satan?” (Mark 3:23) and then gave them a parable. First, Jesus spoke of the principle of a divided kingdom, which cannot stand (verses 24–26). Then He told them, “No one can enter a strong man’s house without first tying him up. Then he can plunder the strong man’s house” (Mark 3:27). Jesus refers to Satan as the “strong man” and to Himself as the One who enters the house and plunders the place. Of course, before Satan allows his domain to be “plundered,” he must be incapacitated. Jesus was not in league with Satan, as the scribes suggested, but had come to the earth, to what is essentially Satan’s “house” (1 John 5:19), in order to bind Satan and plunder his “goods,” which are the souls of men (John 17:15Luke 4:18Ephesians 4:8).

A parallel passage says this: “When a strong man, fully armed, guards his own house, his possessions are safe. But when someone stronger attacks and overpowers him, he takes away the armor in which the man trusted and divides up his plunder” (Luke 11:21–22). Satan is strong, and he holds possessions that he guards jealously. But Jesus is the One who was and is stronger than the strong man. He is the only One who can bind the strong man and rescue us from his clutches (see John 12:31).

Some Christians, usually in the Charismatic or Pentecostal movements, apply Jesus’ parable to the spiritual warfare that believers must wage. They teach that Christians are the ones who must “bind the strong man” in their lives or in their cities and then win the victory in Jesus’ name. Some Charismatic preachers even name the “strong men” and attempt to identify the cities or geographical areas over which they hold power. Such doctrines go far beyond what Jesus said. The Lord’s parable was simply to impress upon the scribes that He was not in league with Satan. Never does Jesus instruct us to “bind the strong man” or tell us how to do it. We do not have warrant to interpret the parable as a spiritual reality over geographical regions.

Stanwood's Men's Group

The intent of this group is to examine the bible and find scientific proof confirming what is says. Was everything created in 6 days? Is a day 24hrs or millions of years? Was the flood real? What about evolution? What about dinosaurs? Proof of Noah

We will examine what the secular world says and compare it to the proof the bible has given us. We have let the secular world dominate the conversation with their theories long enough. Time to show them our proof and our theories.

Top Ten Questions College Students Ask About God and the Christian Faith

1) How do you know there is a God?
My Answer) You can feel it in your sole you know there is something more. You may not know what it is but you do know it is..

2)How can there be a good God when there is so much evil and suffering in the world?
My Answer) Evil is created by man. God gave us free will to decide who and what we want to believe it is our choice and our heart that lead us. The lack of God is what leads to true evil.

3) How can the belief in God be reconciled with science‐ especially evolution?
My Answer) That is what is so awesome proof of God is everywhere and when shown to scientist you will see them depart from scientific reason and start using unscientific measures to justify their theories.I.E. the use of billions of years. (Anything can happen is billions of years that is not a scientific tool.

4) How can the Bible be trusted?
My Answer) It has been proven correct over and over and nothing has been proven wrong. We have copies of it going back thousands of years to confirm the bible of today is the same as it was thousands of years ago. It is the most rewritten copied and provable book in history.

5) How can a loving God send people to hell?
My Answer) Hell does not exist yet it will be made for Satan. God will not send you to hell you will chose to follow Satan there using your free will.

6) How can Christians say their religion is the only true one?
My Answer) All others are based on stories from this one. All others have you seeking God this one he is seeking you. All others you can see man and it benefits man putting him first, this one makes him server others. Read the book you will see.

7) Don’t all religions lead to the same God?
My Answer) No

8) What about those who have never heard?
My Answer) All people groups have been reached and know have access to God. PLUS God judges you by what you do know and your heart.

9) What’s the difference between Protestant and Catholics?
My Answer) Catholics seek God through their Pope, bishops, saints and others therefore they have a distant secondary relationship with God. Protestants have a direct connection with Jesus/God and therefore a personal relationship with God. Example: In non-catholic church's if you believe in Christ you may take communion. in the catholic church you may only receive communion if you are catholic. This is the church putting itself between you and your relationship with God. It is arguable that while the catholic members believe in, accept and love Christ and are therefore saved. The leaders/Pope and practices of the catholic church in my opinion make it a cult.

10) Can you be sure if you are going to Heaven?
My Answer) If you have accepted the gift of Christ death on the cross and the forgiveness of your sins you are saved. BUT to truly receive this gift only you will know. Others will see it in your actions. Not to say you will not sin we all do but the regret and desire for forgiveness will haunt you. When you know longer desire to be forgiven you may harden your heart to the lord. Also, if you do not pray the lord may not know you. Imagine leaving home at 18 and never speaking with your parents again. They may love you but they do not know you.
